Allergenic Reactions & Potential Toxicity

  • Associated with Type I allergies, including hay fever and asthma. Also linked to Type III hypersensitivity pneumonitis, such as humidifier lung.

Toxin Production 

  • No toxins identified aside from cephalosporin.

Growth in Various Environments

  • Commonly found in soil, decaying organic matter, hay, and various food items.

  • This species is widespread and thrives in very moist conditions.

Morphological Features

  • Grows effectively on general fungal media, producing small colonies in white or pale pink to salmon shades. Colonies tend to be membranous or thin.

Potential as an Opportunistic Pathogen

  • Associated with mycetoma, keratitis, and onychomycosis. Other rare infections have been reported, particularly in immunocompromised individuals or those with wound injuries.
